Commissioner submission: Workplace Gender Equality Amendment (Setting Gender Equality Targets) Bill 2024

In November 2024, the Workplace Gender Equality Amendment (Setting Gender Equality Targets) Bill 2024 (Cth) (the Bill) was referred to the Australian Senate's Finance and Public Administration Legislation Committee.

The Bill would add a new minimum standard to the federal Workplace Gender Equality Act 2012. This would require employers with 500 or more employees to meet and report on workplace gender equality targets.

The Commissioner made a submission supporting the Bill. The submission highlighted some of the research projects prepared for the Commission. It noted that setting targets can improve gender equality outcomes.
