In 2025, the Australian Government started an independent review of the Jobs and Skills Australia Act 2022.
The review considered:
- the functions, operation and funding arrangements of Jobs and Skills Australia (JSA)
- the effectiveness of JSA’s delivery on its reporting and advice functions.
The Commissioner made a submission to the review. The submission made recommendations around embedding an intersectional gender lens in the JSA’s work.
Quote from the Commissioner:
JSA states that its ‘vision is for the full skills potential of our nation to be realised, resulting in improved workforce participation, productivity, wages and equity.’ If this vision is to be truly fulfilled, JSA must embed an intersectional gender lens within its functions, operations, stakeholder consultation model and operating model. This will ensure that it is able to effectively analyse, understand and address skills needs within the diverse Australin labour market.
