Use an existing strategy as a gender equality action plan

If you want to use an existing strategy or plan as a gender equality action plan (GEAP), it must meet these compliance requirements:

  • Your existing strategy or plan includes the results of your workplace gender audit.
  • You consulted with all required groups to develop your existing strategy or plan. These are your governing bodies, employees, employee representatives and other relevant people. You have documented this consultation in your plan.
  • Your strategy or plan clearly articulates how you have considered:
  • the Gender Equality Act’s gender equality principles
  • the gender pay equity principles in regulations, and
  • intersectional gender inequality.
  • You have included strategies to make progress on each of the workplace gender equality indicators. These are based on the results of your workplace gender audit and are documented in your plan.
  • You have included measures to assess progress for each of the indicators.
  • You have described how you will adequately resource your strategy implementation
  • Any personal or potentially identifying information has been removed.
  • Your plan was prepared not more than 12 months before the submission date.

If your plan or strategy meets these requirements, you can apply to the Commissioner to consider your plan or strategy. The Commissioner will determine whether your plan or strategy can be used as a GEAP.

  • Your request for a formal assessment
  • A copy of your gender equality plan or strategy
  • Any other supporting material for the Commissioner's consideration.

The Commissioner will review your request and give you an outcome within 10 business days.

If your plan or strategy meets the requirements, you will be required to take one final step. Your head of organisation (CEO or equivalent) will need to complete the attestation. This confirms that they have approved the strategy or plan. It also confirms that the implementation will be adequately resourced. The Commission will provide the exact wording to you.

For further assistance or queries, please contact the Commission.
