Commissioner submission: Workplace Gender Equality Amendment (Closing the Gender Pay Gap) Bill 2023

In February 2023, the Workplace Gender Equality Amendment (Closing the Gender Pay Gap) Bill 2023 (the Bill) was referred to the Australian Senate's Finance and Public Administration Legislation Committee.

The Bill would:

  • require the Workplace Gender Equality Agency to publish organisation-level gender pay gap information
  • require employers to provide executive summary and benchmark reports to their governing bodies
  • introduce new gender equality indicators for:
    • sexual harassment
    • harassment on the ground of sex or discrimination.

The submission supported the Bill. It also made recommendations for further reforms to promote gender equality and strengthen the Workplace Gender Equality Act 2012 (Cth).
