In 2025, the Department of Premier and Cabinet (DPC) sought feedback on proposed working from home legislation.
Under the proposed laws, if you can reasonably do your job from home, you would have the right to do so for at least 2 days a week. The Victorian Government sought feedback from employees and businesses on what's fair, what's practical, and what's already working.
The Commissioner made a submission to DPC. The submission strongly supported protecting working from home entitlements through legislation.
The submission highlighted challenges in hybrid work environments. It also identified that there are intersectional gendered impacts the proposed legislation. The submission called on DPC to do a gender impact assessment for the proposed legislation.
The Commissioner made 6 recommendations. The recommendations aim to identify and address potential gendered harms. They would ensure that the proposed laws are fair and effective for people of all genders.
